Why did Avid let so many go?

I wonder? The loss of knowledge among those people, isn't that worth more then saving their salary? And how does this effect new releases? Will patches take a lot longer to come out? I have NEVER seen any company that became better and bigger by firing people. The opposite, they decline, in customer service, in sales, in everything and people choose to go to other companies.

Those copanies need to put money INTO development and knowledge to get on their feet. Otherwise it's a downward spiral to the end. Risking and become best is the way, not letting good people go and think that will solve problems.

So, I wonder, what is the reason? Why? If it's just about saving money well…  I don't agree it is a solution, I've never seen companies who really solve anything by doing that.
