HD-SDI (Broadcast LCD monitor) vs. HDMI (Computer LCD display) for monitoring

HD-SDI (Broadcast LCD monitor) vs. HDMI (Computer LCD display) for monitoring

Hello there!

Is there any difference in picture quality (both, resolution wise and colour reproduction wise) between HD-SDI and HDMI connection?

Why am I asking this – our studio is going to purchase a new monitor for monitoring the edit and colour correction. Options are to buy a broadcast LCD monitor with all kinds of inputs and connect it to Avid hardware via HD-SDI or to buy a professional computer LCD monitor (Lacie or Eizo) with DVI and HDMI inputs only and use HDMI for connection to Nitris DX. The second solution is cheaper, because you can get pro grade computer display with excellent and wide colour response for less.

Main goal is to achieve as accurate colour reproduction as possible.

Which option is better for this purpose and is it a good idea to use a professional computer display (via HDMI to Nitris DX) as a reference for colour accuracy in Avid at all?

I also wonder, how will computer display handle interlaced video? Will it de-interlace it properly, like broadcast LCD monitors do, or will it show both fields in one frame and make this "saw" (d)effect?

What about proper displaying of Rec. 709 colour space? AFAIK computer monitors use RGB.

Thanks!
