Export setting as a site setting!

Hi,

I'm trying to set my export setting to be a Site setting that can be use by all user in ny project in Avid. I've copied the setting in the Site setting windows, but it doesn't seem to work.

I've read other post here but it doesn't seem to have a real workaround for that.

Any thought about this problem?

Thank you!

Hardware Advice from the Avid Test Team

Folks,

The testing team reviewed some of the posts on hardware requirements and came up with a short and sweet note that will definately help some of you through this migration.

Note:  All comments on the Videoguys.come web site are very well documented and look pretty good – good reference.  Of course, note that the specifications are for customers that want to build their own systems and use our minimum specifications to do it.   Take that into account please.

I don’t believe the vast majority of you moving from Liquid to MC need a document that talks to why we chose the Z400/Z800 with Nvidia FX 3800/4800 over something else etc…..   These systems cost several thousand more than the systems you folks will be buying/upgrading too.

With that said, below is some insight and thoughts from the testing team that can be used to guide you.

1.   Media Composer uses multi-threading in most cases, so the benefit is that more processors being used to handle the editor and its tasks, the better performance. Hyperthreading should be enabled on latest generation of Intel chips.

2.   Top of the line CPU speeds do not get the best bang for the buck.  Buy one or two down from the fastest speed processor and you will be fine.  Never buy the lowest processor speed available (usually the chips are from the previous generation Intel processors).

3.  Memory should be identical and match the number of channels on the motherboard (3 channels for Intel Nehalem Zeon and i7, dual channel for Intel Core2Duo).  6 GB for most editing situations (6 x 1GB or 3 x 2GB), 12 GB for intense HD work (6 x 2GB or 3 x 4GB).  Do not mix memory DIMM size or speed.

4.  XP32 maxes out at 3.0GB memory so run with Vista 64 business or Win 7  Professional 64 bit when approved.

5.   Nvidia is the only graphics cards qualified with MC/NC/Symphony/instinct/assist except for some models of iMac & MacBook Pro. Top of the line FX series will give you GPU acceleration (FX3700, FX3800, FX4800). This is needed for complex real time effects in HD full quality mode. If you do mostly SD definition then buy the min spec Nvidia FX card.

6.   Local storage is either SAS at the high end or e-Sata for single drives. Avid does not qualify the thousands of 3rd party Sata drives out there due to resources and cost to test but the system should have either SAS, e-SATA, or USB 3.0 for fast local storage.

7.  Shared storage is network based. Intel gbit ethernet chips have better performance than Broadcom. Avid recommends the Intel Pro 1000 instead of the Broadcom.

These are suggestions for you as you determine what works best for your needs based on your pocketbook.

Autodesk 3ds Max Design 2011: New Data-Exchange Workflows Simplify Design Storytelling
(San Rafael, California–March 26, 2010) Autodesk, Inc., has announced the release of Autodesk 3ds Max Design 2011 visualization software. The 2011 version delivers new techniques for more rapidly iterating design concepts, accurately analyzing daylight effects, and creating emotionally engaging visuals to validate and communicate the story behind a design. It also helps simplify the process of aggregating data from multiple CAD applications. “Design communication is about storytelling,” said Ken Pimentel, director of the Visual Communications Group at Autodesk. “For many of our customers, a high-impact visualization can make the difference between winning a bid or walking away empty-handed.”
