how to highlight individual segments on timeline

New to MC, but I've been using Protools HD for a long time. In PT I guess I have just got used to clicking on regions in order to highlight them. Single clicking or double clicking on a segment doesn't seem to work for MC. I have used a variety of ways to get them highlighted and more by luck than judgement get there, but not sure what the correct procedure actually is….
