Pan&scan 1080 footage in a 720 sequence – still no way?

Hi everyone,

We have a project for a 720/24p delivery, which was shot in 1080 with panning&scanning in mind – to punch in up to 50%.

I captured 1080/24p media in its native resolution and Avid does let you easily switch the project format over to 720/24p. However it seems like Avid downsamples the 1080 footage by 50%, then blows it up by 50% so the 1:1 pixel mapping is all soft.

I tried MC4 and Symphony4, with Resize, Picture-in-picture, Pan&zoom, Pan&scan, and BCC Pan&zoom – all with the same result. The only thing that worked was BCC Pan&zoom from a still. We need video.

Did I miss anything in my testing? Is this feature still missing from Symphony & MC, or has something changed between 4 and 5.5? Is Boris Red the only option, or to export to other tools?
