Intermittent freeze on playback

I just purchased an hpz800 with Windows 7 Professional 64-bit for my MC 5.0.3 software, 12GB RAM, an intel xenon x5650 @ 2.6GHz 2.66GHz (2 processors) and an NVIDIA FX3800 grfx card. When I playback video I get intermittent freezes. It eventually updates and then plays for a short time (10 – 20 seconds) then it freezes again and the cycle goes on. My external drives are LaCie. One is a 1 TB Rugged and the other is a d2 Quadra. The d2 Quadra BTW seems to have lost all of its media, although I have not confirmed that. Suffice it to say that my computer tells me that drive must be formatted before using…and it is already formatted and holds a lot of the media from an important(of course) project. Only one time did it play without freezes and I did nothing except restart. I have installed Ed Prep for Vista, to no avail.

Prior to the new computer I had a non-AVID certified Windows Vista Pro 64-bit that was upgraded from a Vista 32-bit Home edition. I had 8GB RAM, a dual core processor and an NVIDIA FX4800 grfx card…never had a playback freeze on that unapproved system! Although the OS was a little flakey after the upgrade from HOME to PRO and it became untenable. Not sure what the next move is…anybody?

MC 5.5 on MAC Pro advice if possible please

Hi, I have just purchased a new MAC Pro 8 Core and wanted to poll views for how MC 5.5 performs with MAC setup.

I currently have Avid 5.0.3.9 running on PC and would also seek views if you consider 5.5 Vs 5.0.3 worth the cost of the upgrade.

Can I still continue with my Dongle with 5.5 ?

Does the fully boxed 5.5 version now offer Avid DVD for MAC if still not then have you Guys worked out the best option / workflow for Blu-Ray from MC for MAC.

Is there any general pitfalls I should need to consider.

With the heated discusions on the Web with respect to the new FCP X I am afraid I will not be giving that NLE a look it sounds like a total disaster.

Best regards

Fred

PC for Media Composer 5.5.2

PC for Media Composer 5.5.2

I have been using a Supermicro Superworkstation 7045A-T (X7DAE M/B) with two 5450 Quad Core CPU's for several years first using Windows XP Pro and now Windows 7 Pro. Was not happy with the PC  using either operating system and Windows 7 Pro is the worst performer. Proper upgrades have been installed but the Supermicro is still a poor performer. Have been using MC 5.0.2 and am now ready to install 5.5.2.

I do not wish to continue struggling with the Supermicro computers.

Does anyone have a good recommendation for a PC that will do a nice job with MC 5.5.2 as well as 64 bit software? Have looked at the AVID suggestions but they do not appear very specific.

I would really appreciate any suggestions you pros can offer.

Thank you in advance.

Help with Canon h264 and Avid, cant understand workflow to CC

Hi, I have a little problem, maybe not a problem but something I cant understand.

In Windows, I test a mov file made in canon t2i.  When I looked in Windows Media, It looks with good colors. In quicktime, It looks desaturated or with poor colors.

I make videos for web, so here's my problem.
I test uploading the original video to youtube and vimeo.
Then I test a lot of workflows in Avid MC5, and then upload them, with no changes. Just import, and export.
The only video thats looks almost exactly than the original was the one who I imported with 709 color space, and then exported in RGB, H264.
But when I'm editing, the video doesn`t look the same, it looks more desaturated.
So, how can I have a real feedback of my color corrections if when I export them, the colors or gamma change?

I don't have a card for editing, so I check the corrections in the monitors in MC5.
The project was set in 1080 25p, ColorSpace RGB709

Here are the tests:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xI_BVyA81y0&NR=1    ORIGINAL t2i H264
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HPrWQP1H3Bs           IMPORT 709-EXPORT RGB H264
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=posTGqS4hS8            IMPORT 709-EXPORT WMV
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iNRumW8EIcs            IMPORT RGB-EXPORT 709 H264
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vgCk98eYF74            IMPORT RGB-EXPORT RGB H264
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5EKLA2KfqIk              IMPORT 709-EXPORT 709

Any help to understand that appreciated.
