Colors changing upon export

Hi Everybody.  I'm having an issue here and I'm really hoping someone can help me out with it.  It seems that whenever I import a QT file into AMC, the colors become darker, and then when i go to export it same as source, the colors remain darker.  It's something thats been bothering me for quite some time and I figure it's time i looked into help.  Here are some more details of what my workflow.

The file is a Apple HDV 720p 30.

Now on my import settings, I have specified a 720p/29.97 project type with the raster dimension of 1280×720.

The import resolution is HDV 720p MXF.  I have also tried DNxHD 75 MXF as the import resolution.

Immediately upon import I am getting a different color spectrum it seems.  When I go to export it, I get the same darker looking color as I see in the AVID.

Does anybody know what I'm doing wrong here?  I'm running AMC 4.0.2.  All help is very much appreciated.

Thanks everybody.

~Omar

kcav error, already activated, not licensed OH MY!

I've been having an extremely frustrating experience with my avid system over the last month. I'm wondering if this is just my bad luck or are others having similar experiences. I've had avid MC for about 8 weeks. I bought MC 4 with the upgrade to 5 available. I've been locked out of my avid 5 times in the last 8 weeks now. Here's what's happened:

6/10/10 – 4.0.5 – windows crashes and recovery doesn't work. I can't deactivate avid.

6/10/10 – Marianna deactivates it for me

6/10/10 – 4.0.5 to 5.0.0 I upgrade without deactivating (I learned the hard way you have to deactivate your software before upgrading it.)

6/10/10 – Marianna deactivated it again for me.

6/14/10 – 5.0.0 kcav error (Greg suggests it's because I had wifi turned on when I activated my software.)

6/15/10 – Marianna deactivated it again again for me but it didn't actually deactivate

6/16/10 – Greg deactivates it for me.

7/9/10 – 5.0.0 – I attempt to dual boot my system with linux. I get locked out of windows and never get back in. Therefore I can't deactivate my system.

7/11/10 – Marianna deactives it for me

7/12/10 – fresh install of windows and avid 5.0.0 – kcav error ( This time I was sure to deactivate wifi before activating Avid, my guess is maybe i didn't deactivate bluetooth but i didn't see bluetooth in my network connections.)

7/14/10 – I wrote Marianna requesting yet another deactivation. Haven't heard back yet. I don't blame her.

Also, from about 7/9 on my trial started giving me a "this computer is not licensed" message so even when I'm completely reinstall windows I can't use the trial version as an emergency back up. So now I'm locked out of all my projects. And i just missed a deadline for a local comedy short festival because I couldn't get into Avid.

I used to have a copy of avid with a dongle. And I thought it would be great to get rid of the dongle which was always taking up a precious usb port. But now I'd take a 2usb wide dongle cause I feel so bad bugging Marianna every two weeks.

So I'm wondering what kind of experiences other people are having with dongle free avid. Am I just having terrible luck?

And to someone from Avid, is it possible to have our own ability to deactivate our software from maybe our esd.avid.com account. So when windows crashes or the kcav error pops up we can deactivate it ourselves. Doesn't Microsoft do something like this with windows licenses.

thx, Jayson

p.s. if someone could deactivate my system again that'd be great.

Subtract and Divide Blending Modes in AE CS4
Ben Rollason demonstrates how to do subtract and divide blending modes in Adobe After Effects CS4 and below. CS5 now features the subtract and divide blending modes, which makes this process much easier, but if you are using an earlier version, Ben’s tutorial enables you to accomplish these same effects with just a few simple steps. Ben suggests that now that people are creating new CS5 projects with built-in subtract and divide blending modes, there may be a call to ‘retrofit’ these options to earlier versions.

Does the MC5 Production Suite have a separate serial number?

Does the MC5 Production Suite have a separate serial number?

I recently received and successfully installed MC5 Editing Application (software only) on my home Windows 7, i7 tower.

I'm unable to install disks from the Production Suite because of an incorrect/missing serial number.

I've tried all forms of the serial number that correctly registered the editing software (with/without hyphens, with/without spaces, capital letters and lowercase).

The "Next" button on the install wizard never highlights.

The inside cover of my Installation Guide has a sticker with my System ID and Serial Number for MC5, then there is a space where a sticker looks like it was removed.  It was this way out of the box.  I purchased directly from the Avid site and have all my reciepts and Avid emails.  This is either my missing Production Suite code, or some internal tracking thing to identify purchased serial numbers.

I hate to use my single-use support code for this, lol!  Any advice is much appreciated.
